in 2024 I had a stroke which affected the left side of my body. It was fortunate that I was already in A&E being checked after a minor event. Tests were all clear but whilst waiting to be discharged a second more serious stroke occurred but I was promptly treated and spent most of the month of March in the stroke ward in St. Richards hospital.
Thanks to the wonderful care of Doctors, Nurses and Therapists I made a rapid recovery.
It is not until you lose the ability to do simple things like washing and going the toilet by yourself relying on others to assist you that you realise how important the care patience and sense of humour of hospital workers is.
This painting entitled The Colour of Angels was the first thing i attempted in my studio after my recovery. It is based on the colours of uniforms worn by health workers in the stroke ward. The small red dots represent the numerous calls for assistance nurses and therapist answer during their working day. The mauve background colour is based the curtains surrounding the beds in the ward,
Caring for stoke sufferers is challenging work and this painting is dedicated to all those doctors, nurses, cleaners and therapists who got me through one of the most difficult times of my life.
